Wiawaka Hosts Special Day Retreat for Women with Children on the Autism Spectrum
July 15, 2014, Lake George, NY: Parents of children with autism are on a constant quest to discover all they can do to improve the behavior, cognitive function, and general life and health of their children. However, in the midst of their ever-escalating activities and pursuits, they need to stop once in awhile and take care of themselves. Summer is a time of renewal of mind, body, and spirit and the Retreat for Mothers of Children with Autism at Wiawaka Center for Women is an opportunity to experience a new model for self care and healing. Press the REFRESH button on July 26, 2014 from 9:00am – 7:00pm on Wiawaka’s historic and scenic Lake George front property in the company of other women.
The summer season is a joyful time, but it can also be an incredibly stressful time for the parents and families of children with autism, who face unique challenges. Routines and structures are more difficult to maintain during the chaos of summer, and parents of children with autism face new struggles. Wiawaka is offering a full day where you can rejuvenate and refresh in the middle of summer splendor. Mothers will be waited on, pampered, and have the ability to relax with other women on the beautiful shores of Lake George. You’ll enjoy a delicious lunch and dinner prepared by our in-house chef, swimming, light hiking and optional activities like massage, art workshops, and most importantly, time to speak with others about the challenges and joys you face together as mothers.
The entire day is unscheduled for you to enjoy the activities and relaxation available on Wiawaka’s picturesque property as you please. Some of the workshops and activities available on this special retreat day include:
Energy Health & Healing with Jack Treiber (9:00am – 11:30am) – learn about your energy system and why it is so important to your emotional, spiritual, and physical health. The instructor will perform an energy assessment on an individual’s system, indicating weaknesses and imbalances, and teach you powerful and practice acupressure tapping techniques that you can use daily to boost your energy level and release energy disruptions.
Zentangle (1:30pm – 2:30pm) – an easy, fun, relaxing method of drawing that uses patterns to create lovely artwork. It is a fascinating new art form that increases focus, decreases stress, and allows your creative juices to flow. You will learn several easy patterns to get you started so you can use this fun form of meditation when you go home.
Cosmic Doodling (3:30pm – 4:30pm) – a rewarding and enlightening class which asks the participants to go through an instructor guided doodling session, encouraging stick figures and basic drawings, using crayons only. In this class we will identify what you really want, who you really want with you, and then focus on manifesting it. The finished doodling is enlightening for the student – asking the important question – what do you really want to make your soul sing?
This special day retreat for women with children on the autism spectrum is not just a spa weekend, an educational workshop, or a moms-only day away – it’s all three rolled into one. Wiawaka Center for Women wants to help foster a community with other mothers who share your questions, concerns, worries, and joys. We want to provide you with the tools to re-discover happiness and inner peace and allow the beautiful setting, wonderful food, fun, and relaxing activities to nurture you.
