Walk 2016 – FAQ

9th Annual “Walk for a Difference”. 

 FAQs – “Walk for a Difference”and Family Fun Day

If you have questions about this years walk check out our FAQ’s. Hopefully it will give you a better idea of the days event.

 

How do I register for the Walk? 

At the walk there will be an expedited line for pre-registered walkers,
Please try to get all your team members donation sheets/funds/waivers together BEFORE going through registration.
ONLY the team captain or designee needs to go through the line with all the teams’ forms. We will give your captain the wristbands and meal tickets for your entire team when you bring everyone’s information through. This will keep the line down and less waiting for everyone!
After May 11th, registration will be available onsite the day of the walk. Registration runs from 10:30am -11:30am.
Walk starts promptly at 12 noon.

 
What are some ways to fundraise for my Team?
You can set up your team’s donation page by going to http://www.active.com/donate/WFD2016 and at the top of the page, click “Become
a Fundraiser” where you can add your information and personalize your teams page. (Fundraising Page is not registration. Please register Online or the day of the Walk )
If you have an on-line fundraising page, PLEASE print out your fundraising report form (view reports) and bring with your registration form the day of the walk. On-line donations and fundraising pages will be closed on May 20th 2016
You can also print out a donation forms on our UNYAA Website and ask family and friends to sponsor you. All checks can be made out to Upstate NY Autism Alliance or UNYAA.

How do I get an Official “Walk for a Difference Shirt”?
Walk shirts are available on a first come first serve basis for those individual walkers raising over $50 each. Registration opens at 10:30am.

Will there be food and drink available?
Lunch will be provided for registered walkers. Your team captain will need to come through registration to get your lunch ticket.

The menu for the day is bottled water, pizza, chips, fruit, cotton candy, pop corn and ice cream. Feel free to bring a cooler or snacks that meet your family’s dietary needs.
There are limited picnic tables but plenty of green space so bring a blanket and/or chairs.

Can we bring our Dogs?
SORRY, no! PLEASE leave your dogs at home! Some children are afraid AND it
is the park rule that no dogs other than service animals are allowed.

What events are there for kids and does it cost money?

All activities are provided at no charge for those teams and walkers who have fundraised.

If you do not wish to fundraise, you can obtain a wristband and a meal ticket for the day by making a minimum donation of $10 per person.

There will be a petting zoo and pony rides in the lower field
There will be music therapy from 10:30-11:30am in the lower field with Melody There will be a magic show at 1:00pm with Magic Mike and Martin the Rabbit
We will have some Super heroes visiting us! Yes… I Said SUPER HEROS
Face Painting, Kids Crafts and Bounce Houses.

PLEASE monitor and stay with your child(ren) (of all ages) when using the bounce houses.


What Family activities are there?
Music, dancing and games with DJ Carrine.
Giant Basket Raffle is a family favorite.
Silent Auction.
We will be raffling an iPad mini! Only 50 tickets will be sold. Chances are $20 each. We will be raffling off a Four Wheeler! A limited number of tickets will be sold for $20 each and the winner will be pulled at Texas Roadhouse restaurant on Monday,
May 16th at our dining fundraiser.
We cannot accept credit cards for the raffle or silent auction. Cash or checks only.

Is there anyone I can talk to about Autism and services that are available?
 
Yes, PLEASE visit our Info Fair under the big white tent to see some amazing resources and services for children and families affected by ASD. Some of our vendors, to name a few will include:

Are there any sensory issues I should be aware of?

Very Important for Children with Sensory Issues -There will be a DJ with speakers which can be loud in certain areas so if your child benefits from headphones, please bring them!
There will be a “quiet area” tent for children with autism that need an area to take a break in the lower field. Look for the yellow sign.

Where is the Walk? What is the terrain like?
The walk is at the Harry J. Betar Recreational Field in Moreau, NOT Moreau state park
The walk route is a gentle grassy, part pavement, wooded route that is less than a mile.

What’s New this year?
We will have a Lego and play dough table near the info fair
We will have carnival games and an obstacle course (weather permitting) in the lower field
We will have New Store items (“Keep Calm” shirts and new jewelry), so come by and check out our autism apparel store!
